Aikido

tsunemori indexSarete practices are adapted from the martial art of Aikido which is the only nonviolent form of self-defense.  Aikido was developed by Morihei Ueshiba who lived from 1883-1969.  He experienced the impacts of war in his early life and recognized that there must be a different way to establish peace to avoid the violence and destruction which otherwise seemed unavoidable.

Aikido directs the energy of an attack into a throw or pin which doesn’t require you to hurt someone to defend yourself.  You also don’t have to be bigger, stronger, or meaner because the attacker is providing the energy.  You develop the ability to blend with the negative force of an attack to create the opportunity for resolution.

If you are in RVA we have a Sunday class at 10 a.m. please feel free to stop by or contact me with questions about the practice of Aikido.  If you are elsewhere I would be happy to help you find a dojo in your area.
